Farmington Farmington serves as the principal city of San Juan County, New Mexico. Farmington, known as Totah by local Navaho inhabitants, serves for a hub for much of the Farmington, NM area and northwest New Mexico. Located at the junction of the San Juan, Animas, and La Plata Rivers on the Colorado Plateau, Farmington offers spectacular natural scenery and is a picturesque southwestern community. Farmington is serviced by the Four Corners Regional Airport and further away Albuquerque International Sunport. U.S Route 64, a major east-west highway, runs through the city. U.S. Route 550 connects Farmington with the towns of Bloomfield, Aztec, and the rest of central New Mexico.

Parks, Recreation, & Attractions
Farmington is in the center of some of the most beautiful natural scenery in the American southwest. The Aztec Ruins National Monument allows visitors to experience pueblo life as it was from 1050 to 1300. The Great Kiva is the only reconstructed kiva of its kind in North America. Mesa Verde National Monument has been designated a World heritage Site by the United Nations, and showcases cliff dwellings built between 550 and 1300. Chaco Canyon displays ancient puebloan culture. The Farmington Museum offers exhibitions, events, and activities showcasing the heritage of Farmington and New Mexico.
In addition to the 73 parks and other public facilities, Farmington also has, for golf enthusiasts, the Pinon Hills Golf Course. Pinon Hills was rated as one of the best new golf courses by Golf World magazine. In 2002 Pinon Hills was rated by Golf Digest as the #1 municipal golf course in the United States.
Farmington offers several swimming complexes. The Farmington Aquatic Center offers year round indoor water recreation in a 50 meter sizes Olympic pool, a 150 foot slide, and a playground pool. Brookside Pool offers swimming fun during the summer months. The Lions Pool is open year-round and offers classdes taught by American Red Cross Certified Instructors.
The Farmington Recration Center houses five racquetball courts and a full sized gymnasium. The center offers wallyball (volleyball played on a racquetball court), jazzercise, senior activities, and summer activities for kids and adults.
The Farmington Civic Center is a 24,542 square foot facility. The center has an exhibition hall, a 1,200 performance arts theater, six meeting rooms, a full service kitchen and bar, an outdoor amphitheater, and art galleries.
The SunRay Park and Casino, opened in 1999, offers live horseracing, simulcast racing, slot machines, and live concerts.
Education
Farmington is served by the Farmington Municipal School District. Home to 21 schools and 10,126 students, and offers a 16 to one student/teacher ratio. San Juan College is rated in the top 10 community colleges in America, and offers more than 70 degrees and certificates. In addition, the college offers bachelors and masters degrees through different affiliations with New Mexico's four year universities.

Known as Kinteel to Navajo residents, Aztec is part of the greater Farmington New Mexico Metropolitan Statistical area. As of the 2000 census, Aztec has a population of 6,378. In addition, Aztec serves as the county seat of San Juan County. Close to the Aztec Ruins National Monument, other Aztec points of interest include the five city parks, the Aztec Museum and Pioneer Village, and the Aztec Speedway. Bloomfield
Bloomfield, also known as Naabi'áání by the Navajo Native Americans, is also a part of the Farmington Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2000 census the population of Bloomfield was 6,420. Bloomfield offers a rural environment with excellent city services, a low cost of living, and is also close to many breathtaking natural locations and offers many outdoor recreational activities. Bloomfield presents many water sporting activites on Navajo Lake, skiing, biking, hiking, off-road driving, golfing, world class trout fishing, and historic landmarks.
