Northern New Mexico's high desert plateau boosts of spectacular mesas, river valleys, and snowcapped views of distant mountains. This truly is the "land of room and time enough". Beginning in prehistory, the area was settled by Anasazi (the ancient ones) along three rivers; the Animas, the San Juan and the La Plata. In the 1870's, pioneer settlements were established along these same rivers, and are now the communities of Farmington, Bloomfield, and Aztec. Farmington, called Totah by our Navajo neighbors, is located in Northwest New Mexico near the meeting point of New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, and Utah. This positioning has made Farmington the "hub" of the Four Corners Area. Pleasant year-round climate, beautiful high desert terrain, cultural diversity, progressive 'can-do" communities, education, recreational opportunities and events contribute to a unique San Juan County lifestyle. Pinion Hills Golf Course, rated No 1 municipal golf course in New Mexico for 6 consecutive years. It is one of eight 5 star golf courses in the nation. Quality Waters on the San Juan River 40 miles northeast of Farmington near Navajo Dam is some of the country's best water for trout fishing (recognized as such in Sports Illustrated, 2000). ![]() |
